Karen Bryon: I was born in Manchester England and have lived in the USA for last 15 years. I am taking the Bachelor of Science course for personal satisfaction. I recently purchased some acreage near Disney and plan to build a home with stables on it this year.

I had a horse as a teenager in England and thought I was quite knowledgeable at the time in horse care. However, after starting this course have realized how little my friends and I knew. We took good care of our horses and loved them dearly but now I know we only knew the basics.

I plan to own perhaps 2 or 3 horses hence want to know as much as possible to enable me to be self sufficient in all eventualities except, of course, when a veterinarian is required.

I have a 'Wedding Services' company in Orlando where we offer anything from a ' Ceremony Officiate to complete planning and coordination'. I do enjoy this line of work, it allows me much free time and when I do work it is in a pleasant environment.

Prior to this, I worked in the travel industry that took me to many countries. I represented British Travel companies, which required I live in many of the countries for 6 months at a time.

I have the cutest little Pomeranian called 'Lucy', it is important for me to create an environment where my horses and she get along and can co-exist safely.

I look forward to achieving my goal with regards to this degree and putting my new found knowledge into practice.

Sarah Carr: Like most girls, my love of horses started at birth. Having grown up in the country, I've always been surrounded by horses, which allowed my passion to turn into a skill.

I'm the proud owner of a 5-year-old quarter horse named Toby. I discovered Toby at an auction in pretty poor condition. He was emaciated, but I had an instant connection with him. With the help of friends, we were all able to nurse Toby back to a healthy size/weight.  He and I have been inseparable ever since. We both enjoy barrel racing for fun, and of course trail riding through the countryside.

I've also worked as a barn manager at a local stable, which inspired me to pursue a carrier through horsecoursesonline. I'm currently studying for my Bachelor of Science Degree in Equine Studies.

:
I live in Lake Forest, CA.  I have been riding / training horses for 10 years now.  I own two horses and have “adopted” a third.

Arthur is an Appendix gelding that came off the racetrack.  I use to jump him, but because of leg injuries, I now do Western Pleasure and Cattle Sorting.  Kahlua is my two year old AQHA filly.  I am training her for pleasure and halter right now.  My third “adopted” horse is Kadie.  She is an Appaloosa mare that was a police horse for 8 plus years.  We also do sorting and Dressage.

I also have a Sheltie named Jazmine that I train and compete in agility with.  Our new goal is going to be flyball!  I also have a Siamese / Tabby named Duttchess.  She is one fat cat!

I started taking this course to have more of a background to start my own training and breeding business.  I am hoping that these courses can teach me more knowledge about horses, and help me to be as successful as can be!

Susan Dahl: I train/show reining horses. I have a 2 yr.old that I am finishing now for the Ontario Futurity next year. I have been in reining for 12 yrs. now.

I am a computer technical specialist by profession. I have one border collie dog named Woofer and 1 quarter horse filly.

I live in southwestern Ontario and own a farm.

Dawn: I live in Louisiana.  I have loved horses ALL of my life, but purchased my first love about 5 years ago, her name is Sissy and she is a TWH / Arab mix, she is a gray.

After having her for a few months I had the opportunity to work with a lady that raised racing Qtrs and Thoroughbreds and purchased the second love of my life. Louisiana Trick aka Trix is a dapple blue roan TB,  I saved her from hiddious owners and added about 3-400 lbs to her and she is awesome!!

Then there is Grace, which is Sissy's two year daughter as of Jan.1, 2006.  She is a solid black BEAUTY!!  3/4 TWH and 1/4 Arab.

Last but not least is Scarlet my 3yo chestnut TB rescue, a little bit shy but none the less full of herself.

I know of horses but I can't say I KNOW horses and that would be my goal with taking this course.  I want to know everything I can possibly learn about them and how to take excellent care of all of my girls and then use my knowledge to help other horses and horse owners fell better and reach the best of their ability.  I tried vet tech school but all of the extra courses just weren't cutting it.  I like the part about learning all of the animal stuff but the English, Speech etc. didn't like it at all so I had seemed to hit a road block.  Then my friend saw the ad for "
www.Horsecoursesonline" and I checked into it and here I am.  Ready to get the show on the road and learn, learn, learn!!!

Look forward to meeting all of you,  good luck with all you do!!!!

Vickie De Basio   Hi there my name is Vickie and I am a new student. I am a country singer who will soon be moving to Nashville from South Florida. I have loved horses for what seems like forever but it wasn't until recently that I was able to afford them (here in Florida land is at a premium and boarding here is outrageously expensive). In the Spring I will be moving to my new home where I have lots of land and a beautiful barn. I look forward to having my own horses for the first time in my life. Which is what led me here. Good luck to all of my fellow studients in their studies!  Happy Trails!      debasiod@bellsouth.net

Chriss Kremer :  I live with my wife Alessandra in Vienna / Austria / Europe.  It takes us only 15 minutes from our flat to go to the barn.   At the barn there are approximately 70 horses stabled.   They are outside for about 10 hours each day in huge enclosures.

               I was thankful  for the opportunity  to study horses in their natural environment.  I am able to experience how horses communicate among each other;

                                                       -  they taught me their language
                                                       -  they taught me to be all ears
                                                       -  they taught me to be patient and consistent

I started to communicate with horses only about 4 years ago.  My wife and I own three horses -
Jil and Billabong, both noric horses [ coldblood ], 5 and 21 years old and “my” horse Keeonah, probably a hungarian warmblood, 13 years old - and a black goat called Mecki Messer.

Keeonah was my big challenge and ambition - it was obvious that, before we got her, she was beaten up and treated really badly.

All I know about horses´ behaviour today is due to her!

                  My previous education :

Natural Horsemanship Training: taught by André Stockinger [ NHT austria ]

Horses Teaching People 1 [ HTP. 1 ]    [Relationship Training ™) and Horses Teaching People 2
[ HTP. 2 ]    [Relationship Training ™): taught by Native American horsemanship trainer
                       GaWaNi  Pony Boy

..............finally taught by lots of horses

Sama'a Fahmi: My passion is Andalusian Horses, and the biggest of all my dreams to start breeding them here, in Cairo Egypt.... then Hanovarians.

Do you know the feeling that animals trust you and see you as one of them??... I have that feeling, deep down I know they are trying to tell me something all the time... sometimes I do understand.. however I  realize I have a lot to learn, and that only became possible when I stumbled over the online horse courses.

I used to ride for pleasure, now I am running a big facility with 35 stalls, out of which 30 are occuppied. Some are school horses, used only for the riding lessons, some are owned by private boarders, whom also take riding lessons with us.  A few horses are still troopers and are being trained for sale.

It is like I have been born to deal with animals, especially horses. I love them so much and always dreamt of owning my own farm... as a little girl all I could think of was running along with them in an open green area, or by the sea, but as I grew older I felt an obligation getting stronger, that of making others see the beauty in a horse the way I do...

I’m 29 years old. I live in Villa del Carbón (Estado de México, Mexico), a town of about 7,500 inhabitants located 50 miles away from Mexico City.  My family has three horses; one of them is my own.  I started riding about seven years ago when my father decided to fulfill one of his childhood dreams: learning to ride a horse and having some of them.

Prior to that, I had never ridden a horse, but some of my friends had some and they taught me the basics.

After a while (about three years ago), I discovered reining, which is a relatively new sport in Mexico. It shares many things with one of the charro events we have: cala de caballo (I was the first and only one up to now to become a charro in my family).

Three years ago I acquired my very first horse. He’s a mixed breed gelding. I bought him when he was nine months old and it was the first horse I ever started.

When I found HorseCoursesOnline.com, I became very interested with the opportunity to learn more, since there aren’t many places to learn about horses here in Mexico. I am focusing right now in horse training, especially on reining.

Michelle Fields: I have been around horses since I was 9 years old. I was one of those girls who always
dreamed of having my own horse but my parents aren't into horses, so I never got one. I took lessons any time I could just so I could get on a horse. I started riding english, then I wrode western, then learned hunter/jumper equitation, then went to barrel racing and team roping. I rode bareback, went on trailrides, and begged my friends to let me ride their horses any time I could.

I moved to Orange when I was 16 and my new friend, who's parents were involved with racehorses, told me about a trainer that might be looking to hire someone to work. I went to Kenny Roberts Racing Stables to find a job, but at the time I was still in school and they worked early in the mornings and then went back at 2 to feed and water, but I was in school so I couldn't. I worked a deal with Kenny and he told me I could start working in the summer, I started cleaning stalls then eventually moved up to a groom. I loved working there. He had 2 barns with over 90 horses, a track, a water track, a gate, walking wheels, the whole setup.

When school started my senior year I fixed my classes so I only went half a day, worked in the morning, went to school, and then back to work. Then lovely ol' Hurricane Rita hit and I evacuated along with all of the other horses to Opelousas. Now that our barns are rebuilt and the horses are back home, I am working over in Mauriceville again, but I also work at Delta Downs when we go to race them.

I am currently still working for Kenny as a groom at both the farm and at Delta. I'm currently in the process of training to get my exercise rider license and hopefully be next year even get my jockey license.

I'm 4'11" so height was never an issue, but racehorses are totally different then what I've ridden before. I hope that this course will furthur my education and make me a better rider, trainer, or eventually a good breeder.

And for the first time I own my own horse, Rola Durwards Tracks, a son of Uni Track. I know it's not a great name, but it's a racehorse and it's my horse. I purchased him as a 2 yr old for $1,200 at a sale and I look forward to racing him this summer.

I would love to hear from anyone else who is involved with racehorses or would like to know more about what I do.  Thanks

Karen: Hi, my name is Karen and I was lucky enough to own one special, a Standardbred, for 19 years. I became very interested in horse medicine after my mare received a terrible injury to her knee, after two years and a ton of money to keep this horse pain free, I had to let her go. Very tough decision.

I've been looking around at local colleges and there are no equine classes available unless I move out of state. I was very lucky to find Breyer online courses and chose Equine Health and Disease as my first course.

I hope to work for an Equine Vet. in the near future and not only help horses but owners also, I know how it feels when a terrible injury happens. Can't wait to begin my course and if anyone would like to contact me

At 41 years of age I have finally figured out what I want to do with my life. Better late than never!

Laura Kaptchinskie: I'm enrolled to help me better interact with the horses.  My primary equine specialty is Western Pleasure, but due to the loss of my 7 YOA Mare, (Brandy), I am back to starting over with my new filly, (Pepper).  It will be several years before she is Western Pleasure trained, but we are already starting on her Halter.
I have numerous horses on our place, Paints, Buckskins, Grulla, Thourobreds, and Quarters.  Several are Mounted Police Trained, some are Halter trained, some are in foal, and some are here for entertainment.
I hope to meet more of people with similiar interests and look forward to gaining the knowledge necessary to help better understand the equine and their industry.

:
I am a 43 year old South African.  We moved to Bahrain in January 2006, living here now.  I work in Saudi Arabia. For your information, Bahrain is a small island of the east coast of Saudi Arabia with about 600,000 people, fantastic tourist island, much like Dubai. I travel on a 35 km magnificent cause way over the gulf sea from Bahrain to Saudi Arabia. I work full time and being Sales & Marketing Manager I travel to all the middle east countries which is very interesting and an experiance of a different kind. We live here in the heart of the thoroughbred Arabians with all the events happening, show jumping, dressage, endurance racing etc, including camels.

I grew up on a farm where I used to ride and care for horses, but no formal training, the best was bare back riding as youg boy. My 6 year old daughter started riding lessons two years ago and has re-awaken the interest. Now a lot of people might think at this age to start this sort of studies is possibly crazy. Well I probably have 22 working years left, why not start this course, train myself well and not only is it something we can share as a family, but come close to retirement age, why not open my own little equine establishment, doing something that I like and enjoy, sharing with my family. Especially if you look at the prices for horses in the middle east, they are very reasonable and the little I have got to learn about Arabians, they are very good tempered horses with a lot of in bred endurance for these harsh conditions. I am also fortuanate to have access to riding schools and horse owners both in Bahrain and in Saudi Arabia.

I look forward to achieving this degree successfully and to the purchase of our first horse which I promised my daughter in 6 to 7 years from now. That will the start of our new and enjoyable life together.

Look forward to meeting you all on the net and maybe one day in person.
           Keep in touch.

            Jann Kredit:
I have 5 horses on my property.  One is a Saddlebred that I board for a friend. I also own a 5 year old Buckskin Quarterhorse that was just gelded 5 months ago and had never been ridden until then.  He is a very interesting project.  We also have a 21 year old Arabian that we were told was 12 when we purchased him last year (we were told that by the vet also by the way).  It doesn’t matter though because he is perfect for what we want him for. I also have 2 miniatures. One is 9 and a “Hall of Fame” recipient.  Very well trained for the cart.  The other is a 2 year old Pinto that I will be training for the cart soon. Just ground driving now.  We have 5 acres in North Scottsdale that I am looking forward to boarding more horses on.  We have an open air barn that we just built not to long ago (less than a year) and we are having so much fun that we can’t wait to learn all we can. jkredit@earthlink.net

          Laura Axelsen:
In 1976 I suffered a fall with injuries and didn't ride again until 1999, when I started taking lessons.  I soon acquired two miniature horses -- my practice horses:  small and cute and not scary.  We now have two Arabian mares and a Tennessee Walker in addition to the minis.  Trail riding, limited distance (endurance) rides, schooling shows, horse-ball practice (www.fihb-horseball.org/video), and driving are some of our favorite equine-related pastimes.  I look forward to undertaking the study of anything and everything horse related and meeting my fellow classmates.   I am a 32 yr old mother of 2.  I have 2 girls that are ages 5 and 6.  My husband and I have 200 head of papered quarter horses with a few paints and the odd appaloosa around.  We are in the business of raising good quality using horses.  We demand good feet and good bone, as well as disposition and looks. Not asking for much, are we?  We do not have a PMU barn,  we just have alot of horses.  50 head of broodmares and all the yearlings, 2 yr olds, and 3 yr olds, that we raised from them.  We have four Quarter horse stallions.  I am a stay at home mom, and I work full time at my barn with the horses.  I train most of my own with a little outside help.  We have horses for sale at all times and are looking to expand into the US market.

Connie Beckner: Hi! I have been around horses most of all my life.  I don't show but I try and teach horse owners the whole horse.

              I have 4 horses; a QH gelding - 18 years, a grade mare - 14 years, a grade gelding - 4 years and a registered mare - 2 years old.

I am a certified practioner of Marv Walker's Awareness Horsemanship. This program works toward bringing horses and their owners together in a better relationship.

I furthered my understanding of horses by attending a Horseman's Chiropractic clinic, and learned to determine how to discover pain Issues that can cause unwanted behavior in the horse.

I am hoping to add the Equine Massage in my Clinic's when using my gelding as a demo that has chiropractic issues and will all ways have them do to his conformation.

Michelle Blanchard:  I live in Lynden, WA and have eight horses. Two purebred Arabians, four National Show Horses, one Anglo-Arabian and one Appendix Quater Horse. I show on the Arabian Circuit and plan to have an Arabian breeding and show farm sometime in the near furture. I mostly show Hunter Pleasure but also show a little bit in dressage and working hunter.  Latey17@aol.com

Susan Brees: I am from Iowa orginally and moved to Arizona 30 years ago.  Ever since I was young I wanted a horse.  I bought my first riding horse when I was 21 and could support it myself.  After we moved to Arizona, we became involved in racing and breeding Quarter horses.  We retired from that and took a few years break.  In 2000, my son and I started raising  Paints and Quartersand showing Paints in halter.  I'm in deeper now owning 10 broodmares and half that many babies at this point.
I invested in the stallion The Boys Night Out last year and am anxious to get his babies in the show ring.  The horses are all alot of work but I love having them.  They are each different individuals and many lessons have been learned - and I am still learning!  I decided to take a few classes because of my interest and for the education.

My name is Tracy Ingraham.  I am very excited about starting my courses for the Equine Science Degree.  I chose the online courses because I do not have anything available like this in the local universities.  After researching for several months, I felt these courses would give me the education I  was looking for.

I live in Fairbanks, Alaska with my husband and two children.  My husband and I own a medical equipment and supply business, which takes up most of my time.  The online classes were appealing for me, because of my schedule.

I grew up with horses in East Texas.  My mom and I were very active in barrel racing and poles.  We rode stock breed horses, as this type of horse does best for the speed events.  We could be found most weekends at either arodeo or playday or jackpot, riding.  My mom got good enough on her Quarter Horse gelding, that she competed at a QH World Show in pole bending.  As fate would have it, she would have placed 3rd, but she knocked a pole down.

Due to life occuring, I did not have a horse for many years.  Finally in May of 2002, I was able to get another horse, a 3 year old Appendix QH, Dun Is Done.  In 2002, I showed Dunnie in the open shows and we won the Rookie Rider Championship.  After the 2002 season ended, my goal was to compete in the Alaska QH circuits.  My goal was to win the All-Around Novice Amateur Championship.  I boarded Dunnie at a faclity with a heated arena and practiced without fail four days a week all winter.  By the end of 2003 show season, I won the All Around Novice Amateur Champion, All Around Amateur Reserve Champion, Alaska State Justin Rookie of the Year and 6th in the Nation for 30 and Under Justin Rookie of the Year for AQHA.

Now, my goal is to further my education in horses.  I believe I still have lots to learn about horses, and this degree can give me that.

Isabelle Issenmann:  I am Dutch/Swiss and live in Switzerland.  I own a wonderful pure-bred Arabian mare and a cute dog. His name is Sparky and he is an Beagle.  I train my  arabian mare in dressage, in-hand-work, halter, gymkhana, countryside gymkhana, endurance and polo (I do not play polo games with her, I only train stick & ball).

I want to do the Bachelor of Sience in Equine Studies  to learn as much as possible about horses and their management.

I`ve been around horses my whole life. I had my first riding lesson when I was five years old. And I still go almost every week to riding lessons.
.
Within 12 years I got my first horse - in our own stable.  We had two, sometimes up to five horses. I did the stable management, cleaning, feeding, grooming, organizing vets, farriers and food-delivery and of course work with the horses. "My mare" (part-bred Arabian) had three fillies.  With my mare I did a little dressage, halter, in-hand-work, gymkhanas, countryside-gymkhana.

When I was a student at an international boarding school, I managed the school-stable with three Islandic ponies and of course my part-bred. There I gave lessons to the students, took them for rides, trained
the horses, gave instructions to the grooms, organizing food-delivery, farrier and vet.

I took a few courses at the Veterinarian University of Bern and Zurich/Switzerland.  First aid with horses and how  to rescue and transport horses in specivic situations.

After school I boarded my horse at a riding academy. There where about 25 horses. Most of them where private and a few schoolhorses. I started working there. I managed the whole stable: looking after the horses, helping cleening the boxes, pasture management, gave instructions to the grooms, the food-delivery, vet, farrier. I also gave riding lessons, in dressage and jumping, up to the first riding test and took the students out for a ride.
I had to train a lot of private horses and train the young horses. I also did a lot of competitions in dressage, jumping, gymkhana, countryside-gymkhana and endurance. In between I took a lot of courses in: in-hand work, lungeing, dressage, jumping, and polo. Please contact me at

Marnie George: I'm from England; now living in Illinois and about to start my own equestrian business! Very exciting and nerve wracking, but a dream come true to be at this point.

I am doing my second degree with Breyer State to learn more about equine business management. My first Degree was BSc (hons) Animal Science, from the University of Leeds, UK.  That degree specialized in sustainable agriculture and business, physiology and nutrition and biochemistry. I taught college students up to BHS level three and ran a livery yard, to sustain myself through uni.  I then went on to be a farm manager on an organic farm in Sussex, England. While there I also backed young horses and worked with *behaviourally challenged horses* (usually the *challenge* was the owner's behaviour *grin) Very hard work, but most rewarding.

Now I'm about to move to Harmony road, (Huntley/Marengo) Illinois. Here I will be renting 20 acres of pasture, surrounded by 250 acres of fields and trails to ride in. Lots of cross country jumps for prelim and novice and a huge lit outdoor arena, wonderful acres of beautiful pasture divided into 8 fields and paddocks with room for more).

I have worked with horses all my life and will be starting a boarding business which will be naturally inclined. That is, as close as possible to the natural way of living for horses, whilst still using them for companions and competing. So lots of organic pasture, good rotation and minimum chemicals used on horses (ie wormer), keeping a good pest and worm program, tonnes of turn out and bright airy stalls when they have to be in. A million things that are too many to mention here.

I'm working on my website to let everyone know exactly what ! Currently I am looking for a bookkeeper/accountant - if anyone knows a good, but low cost one if possible :) Hope to have a trainer on hand by the name of Beau, who is my yoda and guru in natural horsemanship and training young horses. She will be doing clinics and lessons there I look forward to working with her as she is a fantastic horsewoman, down to earth no nonsense approach but very intuative and sensitive to the animals she works with.

Anyway, please e-mail me: I would love to get to know you all and adore talking about horses - especially ones who have had a rough start as my own horse Heysoos (spanish for Jesus but thats another story). I have a new two year old Andalusian x Spanish Colonial Mustang, whom I adore, he is a tonne of fun, has a wicked sense of humour and just a fantastic mentality.  I adore playing with him and have high hopes for our future.

All the very best to everyone. I can't wait to meet you. Bye for now :)

Marie Getz: I live in Aguanga California. with my husband Bill. We have 2 TWH geldings, 3 Dalmatians, a number of cats and chickens. We grow lavender but also have real jobs, I manage a data processing center and Bill is a teacher.  We have been around horses for about 20 years and are forever students of these wonderful animals.

We are trail riders that camp frequently with our horses and have done the 6 day - 120 mile, Mojave ride twice.

I didn't really start out with a goal but as my classes progress, I would like to someday find my niche - and pass what I am learning on to others via clinics.

Hello, My name is Cassandra Knepshield. I am 19 years old & I live in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania. My parents own a 57 acre farm where I currently keep my horses. Right now we have 7 horses and we mostly trail ride & just ride for pleasure. We have 4 Appaloosa’s, a Quarter Horse, an Arabian mare and a pony. I have been riding horses since I was about 6 years old but never really had much actual training other than clinics, videos & lots of books.

I had been taught at home for my elementary years & then I went to an online charter school for high school & graduated in my 11th grade year of high school & received a scholarship for any schooling or further education. I immediately started searching for an at home program for horse training & anything that would help me learn more about horses & teaching people to ride. I have a full time job & have since I graduated so I didn’t have time to go away to college & make a full time career with horses but I want to eventually be able to teach children to ride horses and with that I must first learn to be an excellent rider. I was one of the first students to sign up for the Professional Designation in horse training & I went to Weirsdale, Florida & met with Gloria Austin & Cecile Dunn & several others. I stayed at the Continental Acres Equine resort & we saw so many things & met so many people while we were there. It was great to be there & see so many things!

I have always loved horses & love riding horses & I want to be able to teach children to ride & have many of the same experiences. With these classes I think that I will be able to have so much more knowledge & at my own pace & that is the best part about the classes.

Anyways…. I work full time at my parents insurance agency & notary public office & ride my horses on the side. I just recently got married to my husband Ryan (November 13, 2004) & we bought our first house in August of 2004. So over the past few months I haven’t had a whole lot of time to ride & with the weather here in Pa that wasn’t helping us either! I also raise Basset hounds, right now I have 2 & my parents have 2. For inside fun I like scrapbooking & stamping.

If anyone would like to chat or say hello please email me at

Brooke Huff: My name is Brooke I am 24 years old. I live in Coldwater MI on a 1,700 acre grain farm with my husband Kyle and daughter Grace. I have been involved in horses for 17 years and have shown for 15. I mostly show on the open/4-H circuit, but have shown a little on the Quarter Horse curcuit.

The first horse I owned was a bay Quarter Horse/ Arab cross named Prince, he was a wonderful horse - very patient and understanding. He was the perfect beginners horse - a anyone could ride horse. When I out grew him he was passed down to my sister and they won many championships and high point awards together. I finally had to put him down after 13 years together at the age of 25 due to complications from heaves. When my sister inherited Prince I moved on to a very tall 17H. Appaloossa named Tazz. I showed him for three years but we didn't get along very well so he was sold to someone more his size. That's when I found my horse soul mate, a beautiful gray Quarter Horse mare named Aggie. She and I were two peas in a pod, we thought the same things at the same time and moved together like water. She was the most awesome mover I have ever seen, I know I will never have another horse like her again. We floated across the arena and were irrisistable to watch. We won many many awards together. Unfortunatly on March 6th 2004 my awesome mare crossed the rainbow bridge at the age of 10 due to what vets think was a stroke, or something neurogicly wrong in the brain. I was horseless for a year and a half excepct for two very fiesty Shetland Pony stallions that I sold to somebody who would acually use them. When my mourning period was finally over my husband and I bought a black Tennessee Walker named Tempo for him and a palomino paint mare named Hollie for myself. Now Hollie is no Aggie she is definately a work in progress. At the age age of 17 she is beyond her youth and is pretty burned out, but I make due and only go to a few shows a year. She is a good trail horse though and when my husband wants to go for a ride our horses work out fine. I also rescued  an older bay overo from auction. When I say older I mean later 20s.

My husband just built me an indoor riding arena so now I can ride any time of the year and am looking for a younger horse to show. My mother has a three year old black breeding stock paint filly in training, I can't wait to show with her and get my daughter in the saddle. Though that will be a few years as she is only 7 months old! I have taken riding lessons in the past but really wanted my certification. I hope everyone has a wonderful new year and happy trails!

Odessa Clack:  I am 27 years ols and I have 1 horse.  She is an Appaloosa/thoroughbred.  I am currently enrolled in the Equine Massage Courses.  I want to start a Therapeutic Riding Center and use the equine massage on  them, my horse and use it as a business.  I have done some horse training and I would also like to do horse training as a hobby.

Adriana Atkinson:  I was born in the USA 38 years ago, and moved to South America at a very young age- I was raised in Colombia, where I completed my Veterinary Doctor degree at 22 years of age. I have always loved horses, and- even though I never owned one, I would spend entire days at the Equestrian center at the local club- and I would ride horses for other people- I showed extensively in local competitions.
After finishing Veterinary school, I moved back to the USA to do a Masters in Reproduction and Conservation at the University of Florida, where I graduated Phi Kappa Phi.
I worked for a few years in Veterinary clinics. I got married and I now have 3 beautiful children whom I homeschool. The three of them also have a passion for horses- my oldest wants to be a horse trainer, and my youngest wants to be a horse veterinarian- my second one is still thinking :o)
We currently volunteer with the horse rescue league (
www.userl.org) and I also run a 4H horse club for homeschooled children.
We want to eventually own a horse ranch, so I decided to do this Bachelors to get the best education I can before I actually own a horse.
I have been very pleased with the courses so far, and I am looking forward to all others.

Vissen: I am 38 years old, I am in horse racing since 1993. Father of two sons, Elvin & Ashley, 7 and 2 years old respectively. My wife Tanila is 32 years old works at the bank. She likes horse riding. We live on a small Island (Mauritius). Actually I work as a Research Assistant in the Biotechnology Department in our local Research Centre for Sugarcane.

Last year I launched a website on Mauritius Horse Racing.
This interested some South African horse owners. They want to race their horses in Mauritius and they told me to be close to their horses. Some horses are already here under the responsibility of a trainer with whom I am in regular contact. As I do not have any knowledge about horses, I enrolled for the Professional Horse Trainer Certificate. At present I am enjoying myself riding and grooming then I will search for a local part time post as trainee trainer and if everything goes right in three years time I intend to own a stable with at least 20 racehorses. I am self-motivated and I will shift to this new career with more confidence being in contact with Mr Don Blazer's team.

There is only one racetrack (
Champ de Mars racetrack) on my island. Around 300 horses run on this tricky track each year. Our racing season starts from April to December. We have 30 race meetings per season. Each race meeting consists of 8 races. Racing distances ranges from 1365m to 2400m. Our horses are imported from South Africa and Australia. Our professional jockeys are from South Africa.

Mauritius is recognized around the world for its beautiful beaches. Tourist Industry is an important sector for the economy of our island. Every tourist visiting our island returns the next year. They like the people, the sun, the beach and our 5 star hotels.

Ashton Case: I'm just finishing highschool,  my mom wanted me to start looking into some college stuff just so that I could start getting a better idea of what I might want to do. I wasn't really into GOING to a college so we started looking at online equine college courses, that's when we found horsescoursesonline.com. I started looking into it a bit more with my mom and Shawna, my tutor. After looking at the different choices they offered, either getting certified for being a professional trainer, riding instructor or getting a degree, I decided to sign up for the first course on the list for getting certified as a P.R.I..  I am excited to start.

            Now, for my horse experience...
When I was little I watched my sister take riding lessons, and watched her and my grandpa  team pen. Right before I turned ten I told my mom that I wanted to start taking riding lessons. For my tenth birthday, I took my first riding lesson. Ever since then, I have really grown to love horses even more. I have worked at several different barns helping with horses, exercising training horses, helping with horse camps for kids, and helping the instructors with the beginning riding lessons, helping the kids get their horses and tack up. I have always
enjoyed the beauty and presence of horses, and I always feel out of place when I'm not around them.  I can't wait to see where my future will lead to with gaining even more horse knowledge through the online horses courses.

Marie Boyd:  I have been riding gaited horses for 22 years and I have been showing gaited horses for 20 years.  I currently own two Missouri Fox Trotters and at this time show both of my horses on the west coast.  At this time I give riding lessons on gaited horses to three youth riders and I work with other gaited horses in my area to prepare for first time show riders.  Besides Missouri Fox Trotters, I have also worked with Tenn. Walking horses, Spotted Saddle Horses, Rocky Mountain Horses, Frisians and Icelandic horses.  I am excited to be enrolled in this program and I can not wait to see what future courses bring!  irishhills2006@aol.com

Mia Sowerby:  Hi everybody! My name is Mia and I am Australian currently living in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. I am a new student in the Prof Cert of Riding Instruction, and so far the first course is great!  My mother started me riding when I was just 6 years old, and I spent some time in my early childhood attending lessons and gymkhanas.  We would go for family holidays to riding farms and always kept up some riding right through my teens, but just as happy trail riders.  I took many years break, and my interest in horses was sparked again 3 years ago when living in Jordan and I was approached to translate a 600 year old book on classical Arabian horse knowledge and literature from classical Arabic into English. I did a first draft and then put it aside and never really looked at the book nor the translation until 6 months ago when I started regular riding lessons here in the Emirates.  The beautiful Arabian horses, the desert environment and the fast developing equestrian industry here prompted me to pick up the book again and I started the translation for a second time. I soon realised that my general knowledge of horses was not enough to help me understand the  extremely difficult language of classical Arabic equine terminology nor how to express it correctly in English.  So I decided to look for some courses online, and after about 2 months of searching I found this!  My instructor here also advised me to take some courses to improve my knowledge and train to be a trainer, but with 3 small children and no horse, it seemed a bit difficult.  So I settled on the Instructors course, and I am hoping that over the time it takes me to complete the written work, I will also have developed my riding to a standard by which I will be able to run lessons for women here in the Emirates.  So I am very happy to be a part of this excellent institution, and I wish all my fellow classmates in all the courses the very best of success with your studies and your horses. I also wish that we can all attain the very highest state of being with these most distinguished, noble and dignified creatures and that we learn through our studies and experiences to love, treasure and respect them just as the Arabs  loved, treasured, respected and developed the most noble of bonds with their prized horses of the desert.

Meghan Feinne: (From Denville, New Jersey) I have been riding since I was two, and taking lessons for the last thirteen years and counting. Finally after many years and growing up I have figured out what direction I want to go in with the equine industry. Right now I am studying for my Professional Horse Trainers certification, and after that will be going into Equine Appraisal school. My long term goals are to in time get my Professional status as an Hunter Jumper competitor and trainer, as well as become an Equine Appraiser for Hunters, Jumpers and Equitation horses. Between the two of us my mom and I each own two horses. I currently compete in Hunter Jumpers with my greenie and best friend, Joker my Hanoverian gelding that I have had since I was fourteen. My other personal horse is Striker, my Polish Arabian mare that I am retraining to go into the Sport horse under saddle classes. Horses have always been my passion, right down to the maintence which is a major part of it. Please feel free to contact me at any time! EvilPixii911@aol.com

Jessica Coppola: I live in the beautiful state of  South Carolina with my two horses Sassy and Molly. Sassy is my first horse. I got her when she was very malnourished, she was skin and bones. You could count every rib just by looking at her. So I found a high fat supplement called Calf Manna and it is something that actually worked. She was rescued with a stallion and he got her. She had  a palomino filly that I named Morning Glory but when she was conceived Sassy was fighting for her own life. When Morning Glory was born her large intestine was twisted and black. So there was no saving the filly she had to be put down. It broke my heart having to take her away from Sassy but now Sassy is a fat happy healthy horse. I barrel race her now and she is too spunky for her own good. I am going to try and breed her this coming spring and give Sassy another chance at being a mommy. But I wouldn't ask for a better first horse like Sassy. Sassy is a American Saddlebred.

With Molly I got her and her colt, Cody as a package deal. Cody was 6 yrs old when we sold him due to that he became to attached to his mom, Molly. He was with Molly his whole life, and was getting to be such a handful so we had to make the hard decision to sell him. Molly we just use as a trail horse and a companion for Sassy. Molly is such a sweet little mare when she wants to be and just loves her oatmeal and raisin horse cookies and so does Sassy. Molly is a Arab cross. Neither of them are registered.

Carrie Kitley: I have 3 horses (one is actually hubby's).  I ride endurance on a 16 year old Arab Mare and have a rescued Leopard Appy senior citizen that I adore.  I am 49 and finally got the itch to go back to school, but I work full time and still raising 2 teenagers.  So online school was my only option and I found Breyer State University
I'm starting slow with just one class,
Equine Sports Massage.  I hope to take more classes, but not sure just yet.  One thing at a time!
My goal is to one day be able to make a living working with horses and if I'm unable to "cut the mustard" with that aspect, at least I will have opened up a whole new level of knowledge to use on my own horses.  God knows they deserve it after all the joy they have given me.  :)

Neal Johnson: My husband and I live in Walla Walla, WA on 160 acres of land that we are putting back into natural habitat. We have three grown daughters who are all teachers. When we moved here 5 years ago I had never owned horses and had only ridden "dude ranch" horses. We saw our move as a chance to do something we had always wanted to do but had never been able to do. My husband started writing books and I started raising alpacas. I fell in love with nurturing baby animals and soon found myself with two Rocky Mountain horses - one gelding and one mare in foal. This is her first baby at 2 weeks. Another foal is due in May 2010. I feel like I have found a hidden passion--nurturing baby animals. While I love riding my gelding I am drawn to caring for the mares and helping to shape the foals by giving them lots of reasons to trust and lots of experiences with their natural environment. When I sell a yearling, they have been exposed to many situations including leading, loading, cows, and crossing water. They are very comfortable around people and farm machinery.  I feel it is a good foundation for any discipline they may end up doing. I am taking these courses to educate myself about horses so that I can better care for them while they are with me. What a joy it is to have them in my life.

Kari Hester: I am very excited about starting my goal towards an Equine Science degree.  I am 31-years-old and my background is one of advertising and marketing.  I have always loved horses, but wasn't lucky enough to have one of my own until about three years ago.  Apparently they are an addictive habit, because now I have four!  They include an Arabian Country English Gelding named Afiremaker, a Half-Arab/Half-Saddlebred Hunter Pleasure Gelding named Bayou Boy, an Arabian filly namd MA Heiress, and my beloved trail horse...a Missouri Foxtrotter named Joe.  I show my Arabians and plan to go to nationals for the first time this year!

My boyfriend and I own and operate Irvine Training, a multidiscipline facility that specializes in Arabians, but is open to all breeds.  We are located in East Tennessee, and are fortunate enough to do what we love for a living.  I also own Arability Advertising, an equestrian marketing and advertising firm.  You can visit our websites at
www.IrvineTraining.net and www.ArabilityAdvertising.com

I feel that pursuing this degree will add knowledge and legitimacy to my businesses, and I am very grateful to the fantastic instructors that have given all of us this opportunity.

Julia Jesu:  I have been riding for about 15 years now in hunters, equitation, some eventing, and some jumpers.  I am a member of the United States Pony Club and have been since 1998.  Pony Club is a great organization and I think it has definitely prepared me for the world of horses.

I decided to do take the B.S. course because I recently started my own training business this year and want to have a degree to back up my knowledge and skill with horses.

I currently have 3 horses.  The first is my coming six year old Thoroughbred, Logan, show horse who is truly AMAZING.  He is one of those horses that only comes along once in a while and just has so much talent and heart that all you have to do is show him what to do with it.  Next I have a four year old Dutch Warmblood, Winston, who will begin his show carreer this summer as a hunter and eventer.  He is being shipped from California to me in the middle of next month.  Finally I have my little Welsh Pony, Pipp.  Words can not even begin to describe this pony.  He is the start to my business, as he is the first pony I have bough to train for resale.  He is the smartest little learner and LOVES to work and play.  I can't wait for some little girl to fall in love with him and show him!

I hope to continue successfully with my training business and hope to have my own training and boarding facility within the next 5 years.

         Shawnalee Johnson:
Reason for wanting to take the Professional Horse Trianer Certification courses:
I love horses and everything about them.   I want to learn as much as I can about horses to sharpen my knowledge, better my life and the lives of others around me who are involved with horses also.  I want to learn more about nutrition, health, breeding, and shoeing.  I would love to be able to help people when they struggle with their horses and be a person others look up to.  As well as being able to turn my love for horses into a career.

Leah Halsdorf: I am now on my sixth horse, and I finally found the right one. The horse in the picture is not it, but he was my previous horse. He unfortunately came off the track and wouldn't hold up.

I have a 8 year old quarterhorse, who I am competitively jumping 3'6 and 4' jumpers. I run a horse farm, and I train young horses. I am going into training and selling. I also teach the more advanced riders at the barn my parents own. I love my job, and hope that I can go far in the horse industry.

Abigail Harrison:
I currently own a 3 year old Appendix Quarter Horse that we raised from birth and have done all the training on.  "Rolo" currently leads Missouri's branch of the American Ranch Horse Association in Youth and Overall points.  This is my last year to show youth, so I am really excited.  "Rolo" is shown in all
western classes except Barrels & Poles, but seems to really like Ranch Reining, Showmanship, and Trail.  She is also being trained for Hunter under Saddle and will start over fences late in her 4 year old year.  I also have a 6 year old Quarter Horse mare, "Comet", that I show in Barrels and Poles and in the Jumper Ring.  At our last show, "Comet" was champion in the Jumper Division.   She also shows in the American Ranch Horse Association in everything except Ranch Riding, Showmanship, and Horsemanship.  She loves to work cows and is getting better on her patterns.

I work at a local boarding/lesson barn, training horses and helping run the day to day work at the barn.  My goal is to achieve the BS degree and continue to train horses here in Missouri.  I have started several under saddle in the last 2 years, and hope to continue with several more in the next year.  I currently have 3 horses in training at the moment:  one who was only driven, now learning Hunter under Saddle and Cross Rails, one that has never been ridden that needs basic training, and one that just needs a refresher after being a pasture ornament for 8 years.

My email address is

Melinda Hertel: I am so excited to be a part of this online program!  I have loved horses since I was a very small child, yet never had the opportunity to work with them (aside from the occasional holiday trail ride). I want to know everything there is to know about horses!

My dream is to become an experienced rider and trainer, and I am very interested in working with horses in a program that assists the handicapped or those in need of psychological healing. I would also really love to have a horse of my own, but I have not yet convinced my husband that it's worth it!

I am currently a volunteer with Wildhorse Ranch Rescue in Gilbert, Arizona, where I have the awesome responsibility once a week of feeding and grooming horses rescued from abuse/neglect . (I also muck their stalls, which believe it or not, I actually enjoy!)  In addition, I take a riding lesson once a week.  My "real" job is full time as a Certified Medical Assistant in a 3-doctor pulmonary practice.
