David Lara: I am from Santa Ana, Ca. I love horses. I rode my first horse in Mexico. Now, my
childhood dream is becoming a reality. I am studying Alta Escuela al estilo Espanol.
(High School dressage Spanish Style.) I have been riding horses for
seven years. I have two horses a Morgan and Quarter Horses. I have enrolled in
the horsecourseonline to learn more about horses. I am very excited about learning
more about horses. My goal is to know how to train and ride at a professional
level. I plan to learn more dressage (Spanish Style) in the future and train
horses. If anybody would like to contact me my e-mail is davidblara@sbcglobal.net Leslie Leventer: I am 47, married, a mother of two boys, and I live in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. I have been riding intermittently since I was 13. Once my boys started school, I have been riding steadily for the past seven years. Both of my boys learned to ride for a total of six months each before they decided that along with riding horses comes a lot of work! I am still trying to get my husband on a horse. He is learning quite a bit about horses by helping me study for my various equine clinics and classes that I enroll in (but this is all at ground level for him). We live in the Washington Metro area, so it is very congested. I am lucky enough to live off of a main thoroughfare and still feel like I am in the country. When I drive seven minutes the other way down a winding country road, I am at the barn. I own a very sweet, wild-eyed, 8-year-old, 15 hh strawberry roan sabino QH/Paint Horse/Missouri Fox Trotter cross gelding named You Gotta Play to Win (Winston). I have only owned Winston for a very short time. I lost my previous horse to a year-long battle with EPM. I have been taking dressage lessons for about two years, and last year I founded the Potomac Horse Center Sr. Dressage Team at our barn. Many of our members also perform drill team routines for special events at our barn. I received my CHA Level 1 Certification last summer. I teach lessons to beginner adults and children, and I also teach lessons during Summer Camp at the 95-horse stable where my horse is kept. My goal is to receive my B.S. in Equine Studies for professional and personal reasons. I want this degree to help me become more knowledgeable/respected in my everyday dealings at my barn. lleventer@comcast.net Jenny Lowe: Hi there. I am a new student to Breyer. I am a mother of a 7-year-old daughter Amber and a 3-year-old son Hunter. I work as a medical transcriptionist for a hospital in Richmond Virginia. I live in Powhatan Virginia which is 30 miles west of Richmond. I have a wonderful husband of 10 1/2 years, Eddie, and he too, even though not a horse lover, is excited for me. We are all very active in our church, and love the Lord dearly. Amber has a love for horses also, and she is not so excited about mommy going back to school. I am very excited about learning more about horses. I have three horses, Tuff a 6-year-old QH/App, Casper, which is really my daughters but mom buys the food and pays for vet bills, a 15-year-old Arab/App, and Buck a 7-year-old buckskin QH/TW. My goal is to be able to learn more about my horses so my daughter and I can go trail riding, and I would love to one day compete in barrel racing. My nephew, who will be going to farrier school in Oklahoma at the end of the year, are hoping to accomplish our dreams of running our own horse barn, wether it be boarding or having our own farm. jennyathome@earthlink.net |
Erica Ward: I'm 24, and I live in Centreville, VA with my husband and 2 dogs. Tuxedo
is a 1-year-old Sheltie mix, and Bailey is an 8-year-old Lab/Whippet mix.
I have been working with horses for the past 13 years, starting with a QH/TB cross and a trainer named Lester Hock. Missy has since been sold, and "Uncle Lester" passed away, but they are always in my thoughts when it comes to horses. I have 2 mustang mares that my parents purchased for me through the BLM adopt-a-horse program 11 years ago. Showgirl is 12 and Tawny is 11. I specialize in Western Riding, Trail, and ground work, and GAMING! Showgirl is my barrel mare, and Tawny does poles. They are both also great trail horses, and I take them out to the Manassas Battlefield National Park trails as often as I can. I am hoping to complete these courses and get certified to train so that once we relocate this next time (my husband is a Coast Guard pilot, so we move a lot) I can get started at a facility wherever we go. I'm also pursuing a dog trainer certification, and both of my dogs are on the way to therapy dog certification, so that they can go with me to visit hospitals, schools, and nursing homes. I volunteer with a dog rescue group called Homeward Trails (http://www.homewardtrails.org) that finds homes for dogs that would otherwise have been euthanized. Right now I've got 2 foster dogs, Honey (a 1-year-old Yellow Lab/Husky mix) and Gingersnap (a 7-year-old Beagle), running around my house, so it's busy! Basically, my life is all about animals, and I love it. I can't wait to actually make a career out of helping people and animals better understand each other! My dream is to one day own a therapeutic riding center for people with disabilities, and a dog and horse rescue. I'd love to hear from anyone in the VA/MD/DC area, or anyone with questions/comments/similar interests! My email is coastie987@aol.com. Erika Webster: I'm 20 years old and from Muncy, PA. I've been involved with horses for over 7 years now and it is truly my passion. I began riding with Wintop Morgans, in Cogan Station, PA, and soon after became their farm helper. I assisted with lessons, pony parties, training, and whatever they threw at me. After my family and I moved from Williamsport to Muncy, we began sending our horses to Mason Training Stables, in Lehighton, Pa. I soaked up as much information as I was given, and soon found myself employed by the Mason's. After a few years I moved back home in hopes of beginning my own business. My goal is within a few years to open a Morgan Horse Training Stable and to have a small breeding operation.I am very excited about beginning this program, and hope that it proves to be very valuable. erikarose512@yahoo.com Amy Rebecca Witman (Becca): I live in Indiana I'm 19 as of day of enrollment, and have always wanted a special relationship with horses. My parents promised me a horse 15 years ago, but in December 2004 I adopted my very first horse, her name's Kawliga, and I got her from a rescue center, where a healthy dead broke horse is extrememly rare. She wasn't without her own share of problems; she suffered a founder and has a cyst on her left flank. It'll be useful to learn how to finally get her to pick up her feet. She does need some re-training, but she has some excellent training! I plan on later moving to North Dakota or Montana, and opening some sort of Rescue Center, completely against horse slaughter and want to be good in Equine Sciences in the future. I hope to learn quick and be a good student. Best of luck to everyone! amyrebeccaw@hotmail.com Thalina Menassa: I'm 18 years old and I have a 20 year old mare, from the Westfalien-German breed! We used to compete in jumping competitions but it's been 2 years that we haven't due to her age; so now it's mostly some flat work and going out for long walks. I live in Lebanon and I am in my first year of university, studying international business, but I want to work with horses once I'm done. Once I finish my university I want to travel to Sweden and live there. My boyfriend lives in Sweden. He works with horses; he trains young horses and then sells them. He also trains other people's horses. He is a great rider! I started riding when I was 11 years old, and now I started learning how to shoe horses! It's really nice and interesting so I'm looking forward to getting better. I'm also very excited about the major that I have chosen which is "professional horse trainer". I am looking forward to learning more and more about horses and be able to work successfully later on with horses. Helen Valois: I am from Wisconsin and glad to be a part of the Breyer State University Equine Studies program. I started riding as a child, saddle seat. I then switched to hunter jumper and dressage. I have continued my horse involvement all my life--harnessing the carriage horses in Colonial Williamsburg, working for an equine vet with Thoroughbred and Standardbred racehorses, and going pony trekking in Ireland have been some of my experiences. Now, I am involved with the miniature horse. I got intrigued with the "VSE"s ("very small equines") when I saw a six-mini hitch once in a parade. My family and I have been enjoying and raising minis for about ten years now. My goal is to become a trainer, turning out reliable B-size (34 to 38 inches in height) miniatures for family enjoyment and showing. Faith Turner: I live in Moriarty, NM. My husband and I own an Arabian farm. We do training lessons, breeding, boarding and sales. We have between 20-30 horses on the premises at any given time. I am the type of person who is always needing and seeking more horse information. You can never learn enough. Thanks for another avenue to learning about the wonderful equine. Kanin Perry: I am a 17 year old horse owner in south-central Kentucky. We have 16 horses and 1 miniature donkey with everything from wild mustangs to thoroughbreds to a mini stallion, a percheron and a walkaloosa, and have been involved in horses for 3 years but we jumped in with both feet. I personally have a 2yr. old wild mustang colt, a walking horse mare, a registered quarter horse, and a grade gelding (but we say he's a quarter horse). I love riding in general but I am heavily involved in barrel racing, and I am hoping to get involved with team roping and steer wrestling soon. I was homeschooled my whole life, graduated 2yrs. early and I always swore that I'd never go to college but my dad found the site for this course, and we researched it and thought that it would be beneficial for my career in horses. What I really like about this course is that I don't have to take any 101 classes, everything is horse related from the beginning. I am also a full-time farrier so the benefits of this course will help my business to grow and all the certifications will look good to potential customers. I would like to thank Don Blazer and all the staff at Success is Easy for making this an enjoyable experience for me and I look forward to continuing my classes in this Bachelor Degree course. kyhorseshoes5489@yahoo.com Cherami Neudorff: I was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. 23 years of age a wife and mom of 1 baby boy of 3 months. My husband and I are in the Army, he is currently overseas in Korea. I have joined this program because I want to start my own business in breeding and training barrel horses, it is my passion. I have been riding and around horses for about 15 years, I started with English-dressage and some jumping. Of course it all grew from there and once in my blood I cound not stay away. I was a member of North Texas High School Rodeo Ass. and currently am with National Barrel Horse Association. I hope to gain experience, knowledge an confidence to jump start a successful business. I believe that God is in control and if I seek him in all I do I will be successful! cherami.foerman@us.army.mil Jenell Schreyer: I am nineteen years old and I have one horse at the moment. She is a four year old Arab Quarter horse named Bella. I have owned her for one year and last fall we attended a horse training academy for three weeks. Right now she is still in training and I am hoping to do some dressage with her along with some trail rides. She is very well behaved. Bella and I live in northern Minnesota, near Duluth. Right now she is boarded at a stable about five minutes from my house but someday I hope to buy land and start a stable of my own. I have been riding for almost ten years and I love working with horses. I am so excited about the Horse Courses Online program! cowgirls_hope@yahoo.com Karyna Smith: I have been working with horses for about 15 years. I own and run a boarding/training facility for "trouble" horses and colt starting in Columbus, IN. I also train performance horses and rodeo horses. I worked on a ranch in northern Indiana for 8 years breaking colts and finishing horses out. I ran rodeo for 3 years doing barrels and roping. I own 4 horses..a 2 year old paint stud that I am training for roping and bulldogging, a 6 year old paint stud that I am breaking for roping and bulldogging, a 6 year old Mustang gelding that I am finishing in barrels, and a 5 year old QH gelding that I am finishing in reining and cutting, he is also my ranch horse. I run meat market cattle and buffalo to use on my horses, and to help pay for everything. rodeogal_03@yahoo.com Liz Stewart: I was born and raised in South Africa, leaving there 10 years ago. Since then I have been working in Europe, based in the United Kingdom. I have recently resigned as am looking for a change of career and to set life long goals for myself. Although I no longer own a horse I find I am the most at peace and fulfilled when around them and am doing this course as a way of kick starting a change in career to see me through until the day I decide to check out of this life. It is my dream to work with horses until that day. I am 37 years old and at the time of writing this am in New York, USA. I will be travelling extensively during the next year, with Brisbane being my next stop which is my main reason for signing up for an online course. chevauxster@gmail.com Penny Mayfield: Breyer State University student in the bachelor of science degree in equine studies. I have 5 horses at this time. 3 are Half-Arab. I have a Bay mare 26 yrs old, a Bay Gelding 3 yrs (these two are mother son), a Black filly 2 1/2 yrs. Then I have 2 Egyptian Arabian mares, one is Black she is 10 yrs, and the last is 4 yrs and is a dark Bay. As you can tell I love dark horses. I plan on breeding the two Egyptian mares and selling them in the future. Right now I need to learn how to train them so I can train them. I have very minimal knowledge of training to ride, but i have learned alot in the last couple of years about some of the ground work when they are young. I bought the gelding and the black filly when they were 3 months old, I have trained them to tie, lead, stand for farrier, things like that but I still have a long way to go. I currently live in Colorado but am moving to Nebraska/Iowa in May or June. When I get my farm the name of it is going to be Triple S Arabians. The S is for three of my girls their names start with S. I have better pics of all my horses if you would like to see them feel free to email me. triplesarabians1@aol.com Diane Moon: My name is J Diane Moon, I'm a student in Breyer State University's Equine Studies program. My family and I have owned horses all of my life. I am a certified therapeutic equine massage therapist, trained and certified by Equissage. I am a certified equine cruelty investigator. I am a certified REINS (Regional Equine Information Network Systems) volunteer through the Equine husbandry program at North Carolina State University. I have been a Parelli Savvy Club member, utilizing the Parelli methods of horse training since 2004. I have worked as a barn manager, herd health manager for a military installation boarding barn. I currently own three horses (pictured). Cinnamon is a 15 year old, liver chestnut, TWH mare and my primary "ride" at this time. We enjoy trail riding and just being together, she is definitely an introvert. I also have her 5-1/2 year old, chestnut, TWH gelding, Moon's "Spirit" of the Dance. I have owned Cinnamon and Spirit since he was two months old. He's been raised the Parelli way and truly deserves the "Dance" part of his name. My third horse is a three year old, sorrel, American Quarter Horse, Moon's Sacred 'Starfire'. Starfire just turned three and I have owned her since birth. Starfire and her mother were separated when Starfire was just two months old. My Cinnamon fostered her and cared for her as her own. Starfire has also been raised the Parelli way. She is my curious, big baby at 16 hands. As you can tell, the horses are family members. I am currently a volunteer in the horse industry in our area. I serve as an information source for horse owners and potential horse owners, I assist our Sheriff's department and local law enforcement agencies. I also own my own equine massage business, Moonstar's Equine Caressage. I have studied therapeutic riding. I would like to develop and run a therapeutic riding facility for our military war veterans and victims of domestic violence. Leanna Milward: I'm 28, and I am an animal communicator and Equine Reiki and Shiatsu practitioner
here in southern England. I also practice kinesiology for aromatherapy
and vibrational healing (flower essences). My life is currently blessed with
2 horses, Joseph my Shire gelding, and Trudy my Irish Cob mare, who are my
best teachers and co-workers. I hope to run courses this year with my horses, opening people up to expand their spiritual awareness and learn more about themselves with the help of these wise teachers, and help riders to open themselves up to a deeper level of communication with their horses. I believe this will help people in their lives, which in turn will empower them to help others, and so the light may spread and bring a positive change to this world. Heather O'Connor: Hi, I am 22 and have 3 horses. I started this course because I couldn't afford to move (There is nothing local) taking all 3 with me and I can't part with them so here I am. I broke and am in the process of training my paint stallion. I also have a 9 year old quarter horse, who is my all around horse and a 15 month old thoroughbred filly. Horses are my life and I want to make a career out of it so I can get out of the construction world. I currently live in Buzzards Bay Mass and work full time as a roofer/sidewaller and painter. I have two dachshunds that I have bred and I just love animals. It would be a wonderful thing to make a living doing something you love and that is what I am trying to do! Best of luck to all! Enjoy, cause I know I will! Sweetluv132@yahoo.com Ciara Pares: My name is Ciara and I am the Head Wrangler at an exclusive guest ranch resort in Big Sky, Montana. My fiance and I met working as wranglers and stagecoach drivers in Yellowstone National Park, and moved to Big Sky a year later. Ryan studied Backcountry Horsemanship, Equine Massage and Farrier Studies in college, while I studied Print Journalism, Media and Politicial Science. So it's time for me to catch up! I grew up with horses, first endurance racing with Arabians and a great old Standardbred. Then I moved into dressage and hunter/jumper. After college, when I went to Yellowstone for a season, I met the loves of my life: Howdy, my bison-chasing Appaloosa, and Ryan, my sweetheart. Ryan and I own four horses: Howdy From Montana (the fastest Appaloosa on four legs), RCR Absorka (Paint-draft cross, the only 2-year-old I've known that you can shoot a gun off of), VK Foxey Old Tom Cat (our yearling stud colt that I'm training to pleasure drive) and the newest member of the family, Cleo Swift Deer, a loud-colored Appaloosa mare. We oversee the ranch herd of 80 horses, including Walkers, QHs and Paints, Arabs, grade horses, and our sleigh teams of Belgians and Percherons. We love to ride, take pack trips, and drive teams. I love training horses, learning about natural hoof care, and equine massage. We are both interested in learning more about breeding. I am really looking forward to getting some professional credentials to back up my experience. Everybody is welcome to contact me, especially if you love Montana, Appaloosas, or Yellowstone National Park! Ciarainmontana@gmail.com |
Bev Reany: I am 59 years old, a wife, mother of 3, stepmother of 4, and grandmother of 4 beautiful
children. They range in age from 9 to 2mos. In May, 2005 I was finally
able to realize my lifelong childhood dream of riding horses. I started lessons
at a local park. I was a bit scared, but as soon as I got on the horse, Dallas,
I knew I was in love. I have loved these magnificent animals since I can
remember. I am now taking lessons twice a week and own 2 horses of my own. Princess
Tehya is a beautiful black Tennessee Walker, 12 years old. My other is a
5 yr. old Quarter Horse named Shiloh. I read everything I can get my hands on about horses. I am taking this course to enrich myself and learn as much about horses as I possibly can. I have not yet decided how I will use this knowledge. Right now I know it can only teach me to take better care of my own horses. I think I would love to have some sort of career working in the Equine field. And. as a beginner, I need all the help I can get. I am always open to suggestions from other people. So if anyone has any advice to give I would be happy to receive it. My husband and I have a dream to buy land with a small house and lots of acreage with a barn to keep our very large pets. I have so much to learn and get impatient with myself because I can't learn fast enough. I would love to hear from any of you for any reason. I just started this course. Wish me luck. By the way, I live in Cincinnati, Ohio. breany@aol.com Anne Marie Rowland: I am 15 and horse crazy since day 1. I ride hunter/jumpers and recently sold my Hanoverian mare to make purchasing a “horse to take further “possible. I ended up with a fairly green Holsteiner gelding and hope to spend this next summer making him my closest partner. I started my horse life on welsh ponies, bareback and free to roam. Shortly, there was not a fallen log un-jumped for 30 acres around. This riding gave me incredible balance and an irreplaceable bratty-pony-savvy that I have used ever since. Soon I needed new jumps, so my roan welsh and I started jumping lessons. Four years later it was “bigger horse time,” this next mare taught me a ton. Now, two years later again its “bigger horse time” all over, hopefully this one will last longer. My reasons for choosing this form of education is that I home-school and am trying to finish high school a year early, so I chose a subject I love to give motivation. Also, I need the knowledge because I am going for the upper level ratings in Pony Club. I never get tired of learning about horses and this course seems to satisfy those needs. annie@pobox.mtaonline.net Jen Rufe: I became interested in taking these online courses since I have now decided to start my own training & lesson program. I get very busy, and always wanted to continue my education of horses. I own, breed, and show Appendix QHs & Thoroughbreds. I was an assistant Trainer and Instructor for 12 yrs. I have bred foals by some of the top stallions in AQHA out of mares with top bloodlines, they will someday be my show horses. My horse in the picture is Leaguer On The Loose~ together we accumulated 70 AQHA Points in Open, Amateur, and Youth~ 3 Top Ten Congress Medals and 1 Top Five Congress Medal. He took me from my beginner Youth career all the way to winning at the top Open Levels. Leaguer is what made me realize I can do it on my own. He was started from the ground up by me. He is now retired and is in my lesson program part time. I live in Bucks County, PA and would love to hear from anyone. My email is jlrufe@verizon.net My website is http://jlrquarterhorses.tripod.com I really look forward to hearing from anyone! I was born in London, UK but recently moved to America. I have been around horses all my life and I have spent the last 5 summers teaching horseback riding to young kids. I took this course in hope that it would further my career prospects and one day, I hope to open a rehabilitation centre for neglected horses, so I need all the education I can get. I started to study for my Bachelor of Science degree in September and so far I have completed Bits, Saddle Fitting and Hoof Balance, Conformation and Selection for Performance and Nutrition for Maximum Performance. I am currently studying Behaviour Modification and Stable Management. It would be great to hear from anyone that is also studying one of these courses. katierye@hotmail.com Good luck to everyone! |
Kathryn McMurray: When you mention people who get to the top in a hurry, you've got to include Kathryn
McMurray. The 16-year-old from Kingsport, TN just returned from Ft. Worth, Texas, where she rode her 3-year-old AQHA gelding Boons Cowboy in the semi-finals of the 2005 National Cutting Horse Association World Championship Futurity. That's a fast trip to the top…the Ft. Worth Futurity is considered the best of the best in the cutting horse world. Getting that far is cheered by anyone who knows cutting horse competition…especially if it is your first attempt as it was for Kathryn. Kathryn is a Breyer State University student seeking her Bachelor of Science in Equine Studies degree. (www.horsecoursesonline.com) A horse lover from the time she could toddle, she was riding at age 3. She tried, dressage, barrels and a bit of jumping, but decided on cutting horses, her grandfather's passion. So she and mother, Jan, decided to raise and sell cutting horse prospects. Three years ago, Kathryn, just 13, helped "deliver" Boons Cowboy, who was listed early as a "spit fire" and a "cull." While there were trials and tribulations, Kathryn, with the help of experienced trainers, got Boons Cowboy going…and go he did; into the cutting pen with the big boys. Keep an eye on Kathryn; she's planning on making a career training horses, and she likes it at the top. Gayle Middlemas: I am 16 yrs old and am doing a horse and stable management course at College here in Scotland. My parents have an animal rescue centre and I work with my dad who does physio and acupressure on horses and dogs. He also does hydrotherapy on dogs and is looking after all the horses at a local riding stable with over 50 horses to keep fit. http://www.arthurshiel-rescue.org or http://www.tommiddlemas.com We have three horses at the moment. Renee Lupien-Smulan: I live in Fort McMurray Alberta...its not a real rural area up here, but I
grew up in Southeastern Saskatchewan on an elk ranch. My horses are currently residing at the Clearwater Horse Club. It's a non profit organization with a minimal yearly membership fee. We do fundraising to sustain our club and donate most of it to charities every year. Everyone gets their own "barn" and paddock. There are 3 community pastures and a mare and foal pasture. We have an outdoor riding arena complete with rodeo chutes and corrals, and a small indoor riding arena. As we are up in bush country there is a huge abundance of trails to ride, and its really actually quite nice! Everyone at the club is responsible for caring for their own horses, so I'm out there every day feeding, grooming, mucking and riding - when I get all that done! I have 4 horses right now and one on the way! I have a purebread arabian gelding, Khash, who is 12 this year and his primary dicipline is endurance racing...I am brand new at that, as I just started last year, but its great fun. I have an 18 year old arab/welsh cross named Khemosabi....I loaned him to my paddock neighbor's 12 year old daughter this year to use as a 4-H club horse. I have a buckskin of unknown breed that just turned three....we suspect he's arab/quarter cross, and his name is Cypher. I started working with him last summer in August when I aquired him. He was wild and had never be touched. Now I'm riding him western and he's doing so great! I also have a 5 year old 3/4 arab mare names Khalista, who is unexpectadly in foal...she was unknowingly bred when I got her last summer, so now I'm waiting on my suprise baby....no idea when she's due, but we think by the end of april! Talk about suprises! I am planning on taking all 16 courses to get my equine studies and then completing the rest of the my riding schooling at Kanadiana Equestrian Center, so I can coach and train. It's a passion and addiction for me. I selected the nutrition course as one of my first because I have heard so many different controversial ways of feeding horses (performance horses especially). I've had a lot of people ask me about the best way to feed a horse. I, also hear people argue about ways of feeding. I think its pretty important to know. I want to make sure my brats are happy, healthy and able to perform as best they can! I look forward to learning. khemokhash@hotmail.com |
Eben Venter: I'm 19 years old and live on a farm in North West Province of South Africa
where my Dad and I raise maize, sunflowers and a South African breed of cattle
called the Bonsmara. I am a student in the Profesional Horse Trainer program > > My love for horses is total .I do endurance riding and did show jumping, dressage and eventing while at school at the Racing and Equestrian Academy in Durban.. Eventing was my favourite and I have many happy memories of travelling to venues in KwaZulu Natal with my thoroughbred, Planet Jupiter. I have a small Appaloosa stud of which Alpha Toby Looking Glass is our prided stallion. > > Being interested in western riding, I did a training programme and follow up practical course at our own South African Cowboy School run by Eeben Barlow outside Pretoria. I knew immediately that western riding was my way to go and since it has become the passion of my life. Living in a cattle area of South Africa, there is much work and training to do-remember South Africans only see roping, cutting, reining and working cow horses on TV! camero@lantic.net |
Tiffany Silva: I live in northern California. I have two Appendix Quarter Horse mares
and both are expecting foals in spring 2007. Though jumping is my first
love, I mostly show dressage and trail ride. My mom is a trainer and I have been around horses all my life. I grew up at a boarding and training stable that my mom ran for over 15 years. Now that the stable has closed we have our horses at a friends house and my mom traines and gives lessons. I am hoping to complete my degree and join my mom in training. I am also very interested in raising a small number of warmblood or warmblood/Quarter Horse cross foals. Please email me if you want to chat! jumpergirl83@yahoo.com Caitlin Spaanstra: I am 17 years old and I live in Eau Claire, WI. I have been home schooled all my life and since I am now in my Senior year, my mom didn't know what else to do with me, so she decided I would take some of the classes on this site. I have a 9 year old 15.1 hand Thoroughbred mare named Red (Striking It Red), she used to be a racehorse and I got her when she was only a month off the track, that was 4 years ago. I am very fortunate to have gotten her, because she has never had any soundness issues. I retrained her all by myself, with only a little bit of help from my aunt. My main focus in riding is Dressage with a little bit of Jumping. I am currently competing in Training Level, but am practicing First Level movements. I am hoping to compete in a First level test before the end of the year. On most weekends I feed and clean stalls at the barn where Red is kept, and I just started teaching beginning lessons a few months ago and I am really enjoying it. I am not sure yet what I would like to do in the future with horses, weather it would be teaching lessons, owning my own barn, training horses, etc. But I definitely want to go into some sort of equine profession! StrikingItRed@aol.com Tom Townliand: Hi all, as I approach geezerhood, I find I am wanting to do something I should have done many years ago. Go to school. I have spent all of my working years as a over the road driver, so I have probably been to your town at least once in my life. I have logged 5 million miles in 37 years. I am the proud owner of a TWH/Spotted Saddle Breed Gelding named "Ace". We have been attached at the hip for about three years now. We took our first year off together and just went where and when the urge came upon us. He is an awsome trail companion, nothing you can ask of him he isnt willing to do. He turns 12 this month. We spent 3 months on a training ranch in Idaho, a week on a wagon train to "Hole in the Wall" Wyo. a couple of months on a Clydesdale farm and just traveled and rode. Our (my) goal is to become a member of the "Longriders Guild" which requires a continuous 1,000 mile ride, no time restrictions, just the ride. Recently I made the purchase of a 2 yr old mustang who hales from the wild herd in NW Nevada. Her name is Sassy, and what a sweetheart. She craves companionship, and seems to love to be around people. Hopefully this will be as good a relationship as the one I have with "Ace". Sassy is the reason for my deciding I need some education in the equine field. "Ace" was already 9 when we met. Sassy is a whole nother ball game. Wild, young, not ridden ever, but she has great potential, if I do it right, and I really want to do it right. We all live in the shadow of "Superstition Mtn." of the Lost Dutchmans Gold Mine fame. In Apache Junction Arizona. Still lots of open country (desert) and mtns to travel around in. If it weren't for the 115 degree summers, would be ideal. Went riding in short sleeves on Xmas Eve - love the winters! That's us. Hope to hear from any and all of you anytime you are in the mood for mail. Tom Townliand acesallen@msn.com Carrie Tupel: I am 26 years old and live in Slinger, Wisconsin which is about 30 miles north of Milwaukee. I recently (October) got married and I have been around horses my whole life. My Mom jokes about bringing me home from the hospital and putting me on a horse! But she really did! I currently have 3 horses, a 10 year old QH gelding that has been retired from roping to do some lessons and is my husband's horse. I have a 6 year old QH mare that I have done a little bit of everything with. She is my absolute favorite, and knows she knows it. She is a Red Roan and we are both red-heads and have fiery personalities. My last, but not least horse is a 27 year old National Show horse mare. My husband and I adopted her when a lady at the barn moved her other 3 horses to another barn and just left this mare. "Missu" as we affectionatley call her, was about 650 lbs and is about 15.2hh. So you can imagine what she looked like. After 4 months and plenty of food, along with the one of the supplements to live by, flaxseed, she looks great! Her whole personality is much happier and she loves to be around people. I am really looking forward to learning more about horses and hopefully start my own business in riding lessons for children! crequineinstr@hotmail.com |
